Awards season is blowing through like a cold front.
OpenTable, the online reservations site, submits its 2013 Diners’ Choice Award winners for the Top 100 American Fare Restaurants.
What’s most interesting about this announcement?
First, Peli Peli serves South African fare. Sure, it’s Americanized, but it’s not American.
It’s also noteworthy that Peli Peli no longer uses OpenTable for its online reservations. Earlier this month, management announced via Facebook, that it was switching to up-and-coming reservation specialist Eveve.
Other Texas restaurants making the OpenTable list include both locations of Silo Elevated Cuisine in San Antonio, Grace and Ellerbe Fine Foods in Fort Worth, Fearing’s in Dallas and Classic Café in Roanoke.

OpenTable’s explanation of its awards system:
“The Diners’ Choice Awards for the Top 100 American Fare Restaurants in the U.S. are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between November 1, 2012, and October 31, 2013. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews for which “American cuisine” was selected as a special feature.”
